Raising the profile of manufacturing in Leeds

There is a great future in manufacturing in Leeds

Leeds Manufacturing Festival is a city-wide initiative designed to showcase the diverse and rewarding careers within Leeds' manufacturing sector. Its primary purpose is to bridge the gap between young talent and industry by connecting students with local manufacturers, highlighting the wide range of opportunities available in this vital sector. The festival seeks to raise awareness of the various career paths in manufacturing, from apprenticeships to leadership roles, while fostering connections between employers, schools, and colleges to ensure a steady pipeline of skilled talent. It also aims to address the skills gaps in the sector by engaging the next generation and promoting manufacturing as a vibrant, dynamic industry.

The festival brings together a wide array of stakeholders, including local manufacturers such as AW Hainsworth, Kirkstall Precision Engineering, and MPM, who host events and provide insights into the industry. Educational and trainign bodies like Leeds City College, UTC Leeds and Appris collaborate to offer students real-world exposure and career guidance. Industry bodies and sponsors, such as E3 Recruitment, Enginuity, Leeds City Council and Leeds Beckett University, also play a key role in supporting the festival through sponsorship and expertise.

The programme is packed with exciting activities, including manufacturing careers showcases where students can meet employers and learn about various roles in the sector. Factory tours and work placements offer hands-on experience, while panel discussions and workshops focus on topics like apprenticeships, T-Level qualifications, and the future of manufacturing. Special events like Women in Manufacturing aim to encourage more women to explore careers in the sector. The festival culminates in the Leeds Manufacturing Festival Awards, which celebrate outstanding achievements in the industry, recognising both young talent and innovative employers.

Running from March through to September, the Leeds Manufacturing Festival highlights the importance of manufacturing to Leeds' economy and plays a vital role in shaping the future workforce of the sector, ensuring that Leeds remains a hub for world-class manufacturing talent.

"E3R’s passion to help bridge the skills gap was founded from the Directors personal experience back in 2013, when seeking careers guidance for their children who were exploring the options that were available to them when leaving school. It was during this process that we discovered the void around schools and students’ knowledge, based upon the career opportunities that can be associated with a career in manufacturing."
